Resignation and appointment of bishop of Chunchon, Korea

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Chunchon, Korea, presented by Bishop Lucas Kim Woon-hoe.

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the same diocese the Reverend Simon Kim Ju-young, of the clergy of Chunchon, until now director of the Church History Research Centre and secretary of the Reconciliation Committee of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Simon Kim Ju-young was born on 3 March 1970. After secondary school he entered the major seminary and attended courses at Suwon Catholic University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in theology (1993-1998).

On 15 December 1998 he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Chunchon.

After ordination he first served as parish vicar in Jumunjin, Imdang-dong and Juklim-dong (1998-2001). He then studied in Rome for a licentiate in Church history and cultural heritage at the Pontifical Gregorian University (2001-2006). He was subsequently head of the diocesan office for education (2006-2008); parish priest in Soyangro (2008-2010); head of the diocesan office for vocations (2010-2014); and parish priest in Smusoop (2014-2017). From 2006 to the present he has served as director of the Church History Research Centre and secretary of the Reconciliation Committee of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea.

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Saltillo, Mexico

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Saltillo, Mexico, presented by Bishop José Raúl Vera López, O.P.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Hilario González García of Linares as bishop of Saltillo, Mexico.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Hilario González García was born on 19 June 1965 in Monterrey and was ordained a priest on 15 August 1995, incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Monterrey. He was awarded a licentiate in theology at the Pontifical University of Mexico.

He has held the following offices: spiritual director, prefect of studies of philosophy, and vice rector and rector of the Monterrey seminary. In the diocesan Curia he has held the role of promoter of ecumenism and inter religious dialogue, and has served as executive secretary of the Commission for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue of the Episcopal Conference of Mexico.

On 19 November 2014 he was appointed as bishop of Linares and received episcopal ordination on 22 January 2015.

Appointment of bishop of Parral, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Parral, Mexico, the Reverend Mauricio Urrea Carrillo, of the clergy of the diocese of Nogales, parish priest of La Purísima Concepción de María in Nogales.

Bishop Mauricio Urrea Carrillo was born on 6 July 1969 in Nogales. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology in the seminary of Hermosillo and was ordained a priest on 5 February 2004 in Nogales, in the then metropolitan archdiocese of Hermosillo. He was subsequently incardinated in the new diocese of Nogales on 19 March 2015. He received a doctorate in philosophy from the Universidad Pontificia de Mexíco.

He has held the following offices: professor and prefect of the seminary of Hermosillo, director of the journal Philochristus, edited by the seminary of Hermosillo, and parish vicar. Until the present he has served as chancellor of the diocesan Curia, professor in the seminary and parish priest of La Purísima Concepción de María in Nogales.

Resignation of bishop of Kisantu, Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Kisantu, Democratic Republic of the Congo, presented by Bishop Fidèle Nsielele Zi Mputu.

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Hamilton, Canada

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary of the diocese of Hamilton, Canada, the Reverend Wayne Lawrence Lobsinger, episcopal vicar for consecrated life and parish priest of Saint Thomas the Apostle, Waterdown, in the same diocese, assigning him the titular see of Gemellae in Numidia.

Msgr. Wayne Lobsinger was born on 1 December 1966 in the region of Waterloo, Ontario. After his secondary studies, in 1985 he began his university studies in the faculty of Music of the Wilfrid Laurier University. After a year he entered the seminary where he was awarded a Master of Divinity.

He was ordained a priest on 7 May 1994, and incardinated in the diocese of Hamilton, where he held the following offices: parish vicar and master of ceremonies; parish priest of Saint Anthony in Kincardine (2003-2005); parish priest of the Blessed Sacrament in Kitchener (2005-2012) and parish priest of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Waterdown.

He has held the following diocesan offices: diocesan spiritual director of the Legion of Mary (1992-2016); deputy director and director of the Clergy Seminar Committee (2001-2004); chaplain of the Knights of Columbus in Kitchener (2005-2012); president of the presbyteral council (2011-2017); member of the Diocesan Personnel Board (2013-2016); and coordinator of the Good Leaders, Good Shepherds programme (2014). Until now he has served as member of the college of consulters and diocesan representative of the Canadian Federation of Presbyteral Councils (since 2011); spiritual director of Saint Peter’s Seminary, London, Ontario (since 2016); and episcopal vicar for consecrated life (since 2014).

Appointment of members of the Congregation for Bishops

The Holy Father has appointed as members of the Congregation for Bishops: Bishop Robert Francis Prevost of Chiclayo, Peru, Metropolitan Archbishop of Łódź, Poland.
