The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Saint Louis, presented by Archbishop Robert J. Carlson, and named Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski of Springfield, Massachusetts as metropolitan archbishop of Saint Louis.

Archbishop-elect Mitchell T. Rozanski was born on August 6, 1958, in Baltimore, Maryland, in the archdiocese of the same name. He attended the Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Baltimore, and the Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School in Essex. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Theological College of the Catholic University of America in Washington (1978-1984).
He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Baltimore on November 24, 1984.
Since priestly ordination, he has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Saint Michael parish in Overlea (1984-1986), and of the Saint Anthony of Padua parish in Baltimore (1986-1990); parish priest of the Saint Isaac Jogues parish in Baltimore (1990-1993) and of the twin parishes of Holy Cross and Saint Mary Star of the Sea in Baltimore (1993-2000). He was also vicar forage in Anne Arundel County and member of the college of consultors, the presbyteral council, the archdiocese Committee for Vocations, the Priest Personnel Board, the Committee for the Permanent Formation of the Clergy, and the Committee for the Formation of the Laity. He has also served as vicar for Hispanic ministers in Baltimore.
He was appointed as titular bishop of Walla Walla and auxiliary of Baltimore on July 3, 2004, and was consecrated the following August 24.
He was transferred to the see of Springfield in Massachusetts on June 219, 014, and assumed office on August 12, 2014.
Within the Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs.
The Archdiocese of Saint Louis is comprised of 5,968 square miles in the State of Missouri and has a total population of 2,250,000 of which 509,280 are Catholic.
